great minds, hard at work
two truly amazing stories of scientists dedicated to solving the greatest mysteries of our time.... why "romantic love" fades after time and how "beer goggles" affect someone depending on the environment, not just the amount of beer. fascinating.
i suppose i can see the use of examining the inner workings of our mind, and how "love" comes into play with all that... but to study beer goggles? whatever floats your boat (and gets you a grant) i guess.

Another Mark Cuban Music Industry Suggestion
Time to allow hard drives pre loaded with Music….and change Harry Fox - Blog Maverick
This one actually seems ok. And fairly smart. Pre-load iPods and such with a ton of music, charge for what is listened to and kept. Can't see who loses on this one.

O'Reilly and Robertson: Agree with us or die

O'Reilly's quote is the usual nonsense, but Robertson's just takes the cake for me
O'Reilly's quote is the usual nonsense, but Robertson's just takes the cake for me
'I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city,' Robertson said on his TV show this week. 'And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city.'these people just amaze me

drink too much alcohol, gonna get real drunk, act real dumb and have a hangover the next day. keep drinking too much for a long period of time, gonna end up with liver cirrhosis. so, as with all things, it's up to responsible adults to *gasp* take care of themselves. and those that can't, well they'll suffer the consequences.
we need to stop trying to shelter and protect everyone from themselves. yes, some things are really, really bad and immediately impact your health (e.g. hardcore drugs) so they shouldn't be out there for everyone. but unless something is that harmful, i see no need to block it off for everyone. yes, keep it out of reach of children until they're of approriate age that they can maturely handle it, but there's no need to stop consenting adults.

money quote: "You think technology benefits you because it gives you an easier row to hoe? Bollocks. The ease it provides is illusory. It has trapped you, made you a slave to things you don't even need but suddenly can't live without. So you rot in a cubicle trying to get the money to get the stuff, when you should be out walking in a meadow or wooing a lover or writing a song."

The Redhead and the Gray Lady
I just want to come out now and say, I love Maureen Dowd. If I were older, I would definitely be out there throwing myself at her. I can't help it, there's just something about her. About her writing. From the first time I read an editorial she wrote to seeing her on Charlie Rose, I've been snared in her trap; which, according to many of the accounts in this profile of her, is not an uncommon thing.
There, I said it. I've let it out there. The truth must be known.

Hidden DRM code's legitimacy questioned
Hidden DRM code's legitimacy questioned | The Register. All this DRM non-sense is just nuts. Whoever thought it'd be a good idea to punish their customers was obviously, as this and other previous incidents show, not thinking. If people want to download it, they will. But if someone buys it, why make it harder for them to rip? The people that really share stuff will find a way around your crappy DRM no matter what, so why bother? just frustrating.

New Rule
HBO: Real Time with Bill Maher - New Rules: "New Rule: Since only 15% of Americans said they believe in evolution in a recent poll, America must change its name to the United States of Jesus Christ. And our motto, from E Pluribus Unum to 'I'm With Stupid.' The good news for the nation: if we get any stupider about science, we'll forget how to cook crystal meth. "
